Chief Officer for M/S Eckerö – Permanent Position

Are you an experienced Chief Officer with clear leadership skills and a strong focus on safety? We are currently looking for a Chief Officer for our vessel, M/S Eckerö. We offer a permanent position with a start date in October 2026 or as agreed.

About the Role

As Chief Officer, you are the Captain's deputy and the vessel's second-in-command. You hold overall operational responsibility for the deck department, including all deck maintenance, safe working procedures, and a good onboard working environment.

You are responsible for the vessel's port operations, which includes cargo planning as well as safe loading and unloading. In this role, you lead the daily work of the deck department and are responsible for workforce management, development, and well-being within the department. You ensure that deck work is carried out safely and efficiently, and you participate regularly in the maneuvering of the vessel upon arrival at and departure from port.

We are also facing a generational shift within the officer organization in the coming years. Therefore, we are looking for someone who has the ambition and prerequisites to develop into a Captain. For the right candidate, there are good opportunities to gradually take on greater responsibility within the shipping company.

Who are you?

We are looking for a motivated and responsible person with good leadership qualities and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork. To succeed in this role, we see that you have:

• Relevant experience as a nautical officer, with good knowledge of ship operations and maritime regulations.
• A positive and service-oriented attitude, combined with a strong focus on safety, working environment, and environmental responsibility.
• You are structured, responsible, and have good ability to plan, prioritize, and follow up on operations.
• A valid certificate as Master Mariner (STCW II/2) and a certificate for the role of Captain.
• A clear, professional, and engaging leadership style, with the ability to lead, motivate, and support your colleagues.

Additional Information

M/S Eckerö sails under the Swedish flag on the route between Grisslehamn and Åland. The position follows a 2–3 system and involves approximately 146 days onboard per year.

The official working and safety language onboard is Swedish, but you must also be able to communicate well in English.
